When I consider sci-fi remakes like Battlestar Galactica, it seems they've lost the essence of their predecessors: a boundless universe where anything was possible. They were captivating shows sustained by a charming naiveté. Or perhaps I'm just aging. Regardless, Bruce Gallagan pays homage to those shows without the constraints of time.
It began as a simple experiment, intending to shoot a 30-60 second short. However, as I tested a cardboard spaceship in front of a blue screen, I became so engrossed that I decided to invest whatever it took to make it at least acceptable. This led to Bruce Gallagan evolving into a 14-minute short film featuring multiple spaceships, robots, and a giant monster. Initially, I aimed for practical effects, but found CG animation to be the most affordable and versatile option. While it felt contradictory to use CG for a nostalgic tribute, it enriched the film and provided an opportunity to learn animation.
The short was filmed in Barcelona in December 2014, with final reshoots in July 2016. I collaborated with Marc Papeghin to create a genuine score, who dignified my compositions with his great arrangement. The film was originally shot in English and later dubbed in Spanish, adding another layer of nostalgia. I thoroughly enjoyed working on this project, driven by nostalgia while acquiring skills that would shape my future.
